Ingredients
-
4 cups Fresh blueberries
-
2 cups Granulated sugar
-
1 tablespoon Lemon juice
-
1 teaspoon (optional) Lemon zest
Directions
- Prepare Blueberries: Rinse the blueberries thoroughly under cold water. Remove any stems and debris.
- Cook Blueberries: In a large saucepan, combine the blueberries, sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest (if using). Stir well to combine.
- Simmer: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer uncovered for about 30-40 minutes, or until it thickens to your desired consistency. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and burning.
- Test for Doneness: To check if the jam is ready, place a small amount on a chilled plate and let it cool for a minute. Run your finger through the jam – if it wrinkles and holds its shape, it’s ready. If not, continue simmering and test again after a few minutes.
- Jar and Store: Once the jam reaches the desired consistency, remove the saucepan from the heat. Let it cool slightly before transferring it to clean, sterilized jars. Seal the jars tightly and let them cool completely at room temperature. Once cooled, store the jars in the refrigerator.
