Ingredients
-
1 tablespoon Olive Oil
-
1, finely chopped Onion
-
3 cloves, minced Garlic
-
1, diced Bell pepper
-
1 pound (454g) Ground beef or turkey
-
1 can (28 ounces) Crushed tomatoes
-
1 can (6 ounces) Tomato paste
-
2 tablespoons Brown sugar
-
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
-
1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
-
1 teaspoon Dried Basil
-
1/2 (adjust to taste for spiciness) Red pepper flakes
-
Salt and pepper to taste
-
Cooked spaghetti, for serving
-
Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
Directions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and diced bell pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the ground beef or turkey to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, dried oregano, dried basil, and red pepper flakes. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken slightly. If the sauce becomes too thick, you can add a little water or broth to thin it out.
- Taste the sauce and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the sweet and spicy spaghetti sauce over cooked spaghetti noodles. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
- Enjoy your delicious sweet and spicy spaghetti sauce!
